Our Story
The great outdoors is in Brad’s DNA as his parents went to Canada fishing on their Honeymoon. Brad started fishing while still in diapers. By the time Brad was 8 years old, he was quail hunting in Missouri with a BB gun hunting over bird dogs with his father Bruce and uncle Donald. This early interest in enjoying woods and water has never stopped.
Brad Graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Forest, Fisheries and Wildlife with the goal of becoming a Game Warden. Brad graduated his first Police Academy in 1991 and patrolled Columbia, Missouri, while finishing his final year in college. Upon graduating from college, the Missouri Department of Conservation had a hiring freeze for agents, so he became a Kansas City Police Officer. While serving on the KCPD, Brad held assignments in Patrol, Rapid Response, SWAT, Academy Instructor, and was promoted to sergeant. As a sergeant, Brad was responsible for running the Street Crimes Unit. Brad was awarded the Medal of Valor in Kansas City for taking gunfire and then chasing down the offending shooters. As the war on Police Officers continued, Brad started an HVAC and Plumbing business on his off-duty hours and never looked back.
After hanging up both police and contractor belts, Brad and Deanna moved to the Chamberlain, South Dakota area to live in paradise and enjoy pheasant hunting and walleye fishing. It was in Chamberlain where the idea was born to start a hunting and fishing operation to continue the woods and water tradition not only for his own family of hunters, but for others to enjoy.
Deanna Chirnside, co-owner of Feathers and Fins Lodge, grew up in a small farming community in rural Kansas. Deanna enjoyed hunting and fishing with her Dad and brothers and spent many summers riding her bike to cat fish on Keither’s Pond. Deanna graduated from the University of Kansas with her Masters in Accounting and has spent over two decades working in public accounting as a CPA, both employed by large CPA firms and running her own tax consulting business. In her spare time, Deanna loves to fish (crappie and walleye are her favorites), read, creative writing and spend time in her hummingbird and butterfly garden.
